When you want a new sports coach for your school, you need talented individuals for a range of roles. They need to have a desire to be a driving force in planning and delivery of children's activities.
They need to be able to develop highly planned provision, for all abilities of childrens and giving them opportunities to take part in physical activity. Recruiting the right sports coach can give your school many benefits, including increased leadership and participation levels, increased standards in other subjects such as maths, and increased concentration for other subjects.
Here is a helpful process to identify suitable coaches…
Firstly, make the job description specific to the type of coach you want to recruit. You can use an application form to collect all the information that you need, and you should also ask to see a CV from any candidates.
Once you are happy with a select few candidates, you should take out an interview. This could consist of some in office questions, and then the candidate should take part in a practical interview. This could be them teaching a small group of children a particular sports activity, which they were made aware of beforehand. This allows you to get a feel for the coach, and view them in action. This practical session should rank higher than the question and answer interview when reviewing the candidate.
By law, the coach needs to have a DBS Check and Certificate, which they may already have or will need to have when commencing employment with you. You will also need to draw up a contract of employment details within two months of the coach starting. You may also want to take copies of any relevant qualifications that the hold.
Potential coaches will also need to have safeguard checks on them, meeting the core minimum standards for active coaches.
Remember to take into consideration the candidates past experience, confidence, organisational skills and social skills when reviewing them.
