This week’s PE Activity of the Week is the Raft Game. This activity focuses on teamwork and coordination.
Active Superstars plan, coordinate and prepare fun, energising games for children to participate in during our sports sessions. We like to be as unique as possible and ensure children have fun whilst working hard and learning new skills. Each week we share our favourite ‘PE Activity of the Week’ to give you an insight into our sessions and provide some inspiration for games of your own.
The Object of the Game:
The object of the game is for the children to work as a team to travel from one end of the room to the other, whilst not touching the floor.
Skills Acquired:
- Teamwork
- Co-operation
- Coordination
- Thinking Skills
- Balance
Instructions:
- Divide the children into small groups. Give each group two mats which act as boats
- The floor is the sea. The teams must start at one end of the room, and travel to the other side without touching the sea, meaning that they can move the mats and jump to the next, whilst passing it forward
- To make it harder, one team member can be blind folded to make the team think more carefully. Obstacles can also be placed in the middle of the room to make it harder for children to get passed
- If any team touches the sea, they must go back to the start and start again
