National School Sport Week started in 2008, run by Youth Sport Trust. Last year they saw over 5,000 schools and 1.8 million pupils take part. It aims to inspire a generation and promote lifelong participation in sport.
National School Sport Week encourages and inspires children to get involved with sport through a mixture of activities.
Why is School Sport important?
Children are continuously developing physically and emotionally which are affected by the benefits of activity. Children may not have the opportunity to carry out sport outside of school, which is why it is vital that schools provide physical education programmes to ensure each child receives the same opportunity to stay active.

- Physical health such as combating obesity and reducing the chance of diabetes, heart disease and asthma
