The demand for apprenticeships has risen over the last 5 years a considerable amount. The UK government has a target of starting 3 million apprenticeships by 2020. Apprenticeships are an alternative to further education such as college or university. You can learn more about apprenticeships here.
My Story
After leaving college, I wasn't sure what it was that I wanted to do. I knew that university wasn't for me, so I decided to try and get a full time job. After applying to well over 200 jobs, I finally got lucky and got my first full time job. I stayed in this job for a year, but I could only see it as a 'job' and not a career. So, I decided to look for something new. This was when i stumbled across apprenticeships and decided to give them a shot. After many weeks of applying and not getting lucky, I heard off Active Superstars who wanted me to attend an interview. I was thrilled!
A couple of days went by and I then found out that I had got the position! Starting after my holiday, I was excitable and couldn't wait to start somewhere new and learn new skills in a field I had no previous experience in.
My First Day
I arrived at my first day nervous and anxious- and extremeley early. I waited in reception and then got taken into the office. I met most of the team, who were very friendly and all made me feel welcome. I set up my computer at my new desk, and set up my emails and Google Drive. It was all a bit confusing but I can now say that I am getting the hang of it! I finished my day and although I was tired from a long day and so much to remember, I also had a sense of motivation and I was excited about what tomorrow would bring.
A Week On
I've almost finished my first week at Active Superstars, and the motivation and excitement from my first day is very much still here. I have learnt a large amount of new skills, and now I just have to try and remember it all. I've learnt more about the business, which I am proud and grateful that I get to work for, and I am eager to learn more. I am meeting my Apprenticeship Advisor on Monday, and I am looking forward to getting stuck in.
