When created, positive learning environments will engage and motivate students. By using a variety of techniques, coaches and teachers can inspire students to strive for their personal best. A positive environment will increase effective communication and interactions, and create mutual trust and respect.
How to Create a Positive Environment:
Clear Communication
Communication is one of the most important things between students and teachers. Clear communication allows children to know what is expected of them, and will also help to build positive relationships. Make sure you use words that the children will understand, and phrases that will help them with their learning.
Valued Individuals
Pupils should feel appreciated and acknowledged on a personal level. This will allow the teacher to get to know the pupil, and will increase student-teacher/student-parent relationships. This will also increase the confidence in children, which is all round positive.
Teach Positive Actions/Behaviours
From the start, children need to feel comfortable in their environment. Teaching children positive behaviours will provide them with skills for the future. These may include positive actions for improving themselves, getting along with others and for individual work.
Routines Clear and Consistent
Creating routine will allow the students to feel comfortable and this will result in them working harder. Schedules help to give routine for children which in turn will make them feel more comfortable whilst learning, increasing their performance.
Be Passionate about Your Subject
When teachers are passionate, it will pass on to the students. This will help children to become motivated and inspired, thus increasing their performance.
Be Creative with Praise and Rewards
A great way to motivate students is through rewarding them. Sometimes a simple Well Done is enough, other times being more creative with rewards pays off. This is not to be confused with rewarding to get them to behave. If they expect rewards, the element is lost.
