1. Ensure Understanding
The best way to ensure that your pupils are on the right track, is to ask them if they understand. And if the answer is no, try to rephrase the question or topic in a different way as this may be less difficult and will help children to learn.
2. Use Visual Reminders
Using visual reminders as well as auditory allows children of all abilities to understand and perform at the best of their ability. Learning takes many shapes and forms, but by ensuring that you use visual prompts it means that everyone gets the same chance to learn and understand.
3. Manage Behaviour
Having clear rules in the classroom means that children understand what is expected of them and will help them to behave well. Make clear rules that must be followed, and enforce these consistently.
4. Identify and Support
Identifying any pupils that may be at risk of falling behind is key to ensuring your classroom is an environment where all children can succeed. By identifying what the problems are and how they can be solved, children will then find ways that work best for them within learning.
5. Provide feedback
Providing feedback for pupils means that they can improve their own learning and they will excel. Ensure pupils understand the feedback that you give to them, and remember it should not deter them but instead push them to keeping going.
6. Teach in a Variety of Ways
Every child learns differently. This means that there should be a variety of ways in which you teach and the resources that you use. These could include books, videos, pictures and images, music, presentations and performances. You can even get the children involved to see how they work best, and use this to your advantage.
7. Know Your Subject
Understanding your subject area is extremely important. Not only this, but teachers should be passionate about their subject. This positivity will be passed on to pupils, increasing their likelihood to enjoy the subject and succeed.
8. Ask for Help and Feedback
Sometimes, others can see your strengths and weaknesses better than yourself. Gaining feedback from other teachers helps to allow you to find areas to improve, and how to improve on them. It’s also a great way to get new ideas.
9. Get Children Interested
Students remember the lessons if the information incorporated in them ties in with aspects of their life. This also helps pupils to understand how to use the information in everyday life.
10. Be Positive
One of the obvious but most vital tips, be positive! A positive teacher will have a positive impact on students. Addiotnally, this will make the learning environment better and will encourage children to learn.
